Common questions
How is YieldDesk different from the free preferred-stock sites?
The free sites are databases kept by volunteers, and they are useful references. They do not score income quality, publish research on the companies, alert on call windows or work out after-tax yield from a saved tax bracket. YieldDesk does those things every trading day, and the price on this page pays for them.
What does Plus add to Starter?
Starter is free. It has the Sunday digest, every record page with its essentials, the first 10 rows of each class screener with sector and search, the score, one watchlist of 10 issues, 3 alerts on price and declarations, one security each, and 4 calculators. Plus opens the rest of the desk: the full record pages, the Securities directory, the full screeners with every filter and 10 saved screens, issuer pages, the New Issue Tracker, the floating-rate desk and rate scenarios, the Forward Rate Monitor, all 21 calculators and the Tax Center, 25 alerts of every kind, 10 watchlists of 50 with notes, 2 portfolios with the Income Calendar, DRIP mode and CSV import, and the research reports on every BDC, updated every quarter.
What does Elite add to Plus?
Elite removes the limits: unlimited portfolios, watchlists and alerts, 25 saved screens, and the iOS and Android app with push alerts. Brokerage account sync, read-only, is coming to Elite. One account is well served by Plus. Several accounts call for Elite.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. Plus and Elite both start with a 7-day free trial. A card is required to start, and it is not charged until the trial ends. Cancelling during the trial returns the account to Starter, which keeps everything you added: alerts over Starter's limits, or wider than one security, are paused until you upgrade.
Can I cancel at any time?
Yes. A monthly plan ends at the next billing date, and a yearly plan at the end of the paid year. A full refund is given if asked for within 7 days of the first charge after the trial, and none after that. A move down to Starter takes effect at the end of the current period and keeps everything you added.
What are the research reports?
Every BDC gets an initiation report, then an update after each quarterly filing. Both are built from the filings and the company's own ledger, read by an editor before they publish, and kept in the Library. Members who hold or watch the company get an Inbox note and one email the day a report publishes. Plus and Elite.
Which alerts can I set?
Five kinds: a price level, a call window opening, a distribution declared, an insider filing, and a price crossing par. Each names the event behind it; none fires on a score. Starter has 3 alerts on price and declarations, Plus has 25 of every kind, and Elite has no limit. A redemption notice goes to every holder and watcher of the ticker, on any plan.
Is the score investment advice?
No. The Income Quality Score describes what the filings show about a security's income, on a published method, and it is the same figure on every page. It is not a recommendation to buy, hold or sell, and no alert is triggered by it. The Methodology page sets out every measure and its weight.
What arrives by email?
The Sunday digest, one email a week on every plan. Any alert set to email. A research report on a company held or watched, the day it publishes. Nothing else: YieldDesk carries no advertising and does not sell member data.
Are the quotes live?
Quotes are delayed 15 minutes on every plan. Scores are recomputed every trading day after the close, filings are checked every day, and an alert on a filing arrives the next morning.
Does YieldDesk cover markets outside the U.S.?
Not yet. Coverage is U.S.-listed: 750+ preferred issues, 150+ covered-call ETFs, 40+ BDCs and 15+ preferred ETFs on the NYSE and Nasdaq. Preferreds listed in the U.K., Canada and Singapore are on the roadmap. They need a different data supply, and YieldDesk will announce that coverage when it is ready.
Where does the data come from?
Filings and corporate events come from SEC EDGAR. Prices come from a licensed market-data feed. Rates and economic series come from FRED, the St. Louis Fed's database. The scoring method is published on the Methodology page, so every input can be checked.
