Qualified dividend income

Also written QDI, qualified dividend.

Qualified dividend income: taxed at the long-term capital gains rate when the holding period is met.

Definition

Dividends taxed at the long-term capital gains rate rather than as ordinary income. Most dividends on U.S. preferred stock qualify if the holding period is met; baby bond interest does not, nor do most REIT and BDC distributions.
